The EMVA has a rich event calendar planned for the first half of 2017, says Thomas Lubkemeier. Firstly, the organisation will hold its Control Vision Talks at the 31st quality assurance trade fair Control, taking place from 9 to 12 May in Stuttgart, Germany. This is a series of machine vision and optical metrology presentations with a strong application-oriented focus. Each of the first three days feature presentations: World of 3D on 9 May; optical metrology, offline to inline on 10 May; and spectral imaging, from infrared to hyperspectral on 11 May.

Later in the month, on the evening of 22 May before the opening of SPS IPC Drives Italy, EMVA will organise the Parma Vision Night 2017, a social networking event at a restaurant in Parma city centre. It will be organised in partnership with Messe Frankfurt Italia. The event is an excellent occasion for companies that want to get a first impression of the Italian market and even find possible co-operation partners. The highlight of EMVA’s event calendar at the end of the first half of the year will be the 15th EMVA business conference from 22 to 24 June in the Czech capital, Prague. Registration is open and conference seats are filling up fast. First speakers will be announced soon, and the preliminary conference programme, as well as registration, can be found at www.business-conference-emva.org.
Finally, EMVA has now opened a call for papers for its Young Professional Award. Applicants have until 21 April to submit an entry. The annual prize honours outstanding and innovative work undertaken by a student or young professional in the field of machine vision or image processing. The focus is strongly on innovation and industrial applicability.
To be considered for the award, the work has to be in the field of vision technology with industrial relevance. Commercialisation of a novel, competitive product should be intended, but implementation in industry at the time of submitting is not a requirement. The work can be either a master thesis, or a PhD-level thesis.
The work has to be made within the last 12 months by a student or young researcher at a European institution or in collaboration with a European institution. Direct collaboration with a company is a necessity. The applicant can have entered employment since completing the work.
The winner will receive a free conference pass for the EMVA business conference in Prague and prize money of €1,500. Papers can be submitted to EMVA secretariat Célina Ruppert at: ypa@emva.org.
