Precision displacement sensor firm, Micro-Epsilon, has extended its surfaceCONTROL range of high precision 3D snapshot sensors for automated, inline measurement of geometry, shape and surface quality of objects.
The update means surfaceCONTROL 3xx0-240 offers an expanded measuring range of 240mm and a measurement area of up to 245x180mm.
Providing greater scope for measuring
The surfaceCONTROL 3xx0-240 is a 3D snapshot sensor with a compact design and extremely high resolution in the z-axis. With high repeatability combined with a larger measuring area and measuring range, the sensor sets a new benchmark in high precision 3D measurement technology. According to Micro-Epsilon, the sensor offers the best measurement results at a z-axis distance of between 340 and 540mm.
The firm also says its surfaceCONTROL 3xx0-240 is now available in all classes and models of the surfaceCONTROL 3xx0 series, such as the surfaceCONTROL 3D 3200 and surfaceCONTROL 3D 3500 ranges. Both models are fully integrated industrial sensors that are protected to IP67 with passive cooling, while each sensor offers a different measuring area and depth of field.
The surfaceCONTROL 3D 3500 offers the highest z-axis repeatability of up to 0.4µm and the best z-axis resolution of 1.0µm (Image: Micro-Epsilon)
Of the models, the surfaceCONTROL 3D 3500 delivers the highest z-axis repeatability of up to 0.4µm, while providing the best z-axis resolution of 1.0µm. The sensor can also increase productivity with a high data processing speed of up to 2.2 million 3D points per second.
A more affordable version of the surfaceCONTROL 3D 3500 is the surfaceCONTROL 3D 3200 which still provides many of the same technical performance benefits.
There is also the surfaceCONTROL 3D 3200-240 which Micro-Epsilon says is suitable for industrial application with a high z-axis repeatability of up to 0.6µm, a high z-axis resolution of 1.5µm, and with data acquisition times from 0.3s.
A further alternative is the surfaceCONTROL 3xx0-240 which can support a wide range of flatness measurement, coplanarity measurement and surface defect detection requirements, such as flatness inspection of circuit boards, determination of shape deviation defects on injection moulded parts, and other precision tasks.
Compatibility with software
Underpinning the surfaceCONTROL 3D systems is a compatibility with the latest GigE Vision and GenICam standards for easy integration into third-party image processing software.
Micro-Epsilon also provides a software development kit to allow customers to develop their own analysis software, as well as access Micro-Epsilon’s own 3D View software.
Together, Micro-Epsilon says this supports fast commissioning, evaluation of the sensor, and set up and optimisation of parameters, so that the user can ensure the correct positioning of the measuring object.
