A ruggedised F-Mount periscope from Resolve Optics has been developed for a high-speed ballistic range camera from Specialised Imaging. The periscope is designed to provide real-time focusing of any prime lens on the camera.
Traditionally most range camera designs have made do with lens focusing systems not designed for the high shock and vibration environment of the ballistic testing range. Resolve Optics were tasked to design and manufacture a rugged and lockable F-mount periscope focusing system for the SIR3 camera that incorporated a manual iris adjustment enabling use of any prime lens including modern DSLR lenses that have no manual iris control. A micro switch, activated by the mirror slide, was incorporated into the periscope design, to ensure that the camera cannot be used while the mirror is in the focusing position.
