Photron, Inc., a global leader and manufacturer of high-speed cameras and image analysis software, announces the FASTCAM Multi, a flexible, multi-head camera system that is tethered to a remote processor – current cable lengths are 16 ft. (5m) and 33 ft. (10m) with longer lengths planned. The small, sealed camera heads (2.72” (69mm) x 2.76” (70mm) x 5.96” (145mm) each) and the unique configuration allow the user to capture images in confined spaces with megapixel resolution up to 6,000 frames per second (fps). Full, high- resolution at 1280 x 1024 is provided at 4,800 fps and 720 HD (1,280 x 720 pixels) to 6,000 fps. Other frame rates are available up to 750,000 fps at reduced resolution. The FASTCAM Multi permits high resolution, excellent frame rate performance, and high-speed imaging in limited spaces that are not large enough to use a traditional one-piece, standalone high speed camera.
FASTCAM Multi’s camera processor is separate from the camera heads. This ensures that the data is safely retained in the processor in the event the camera heads or cables are damaged or destroyed during the capture of an explosive high speed event. Photron’s new camera system is ideal for applications such as off-board automotive safety testing, detonation and explosives testing, and for any high speed image capture in confined, yet demanding environments. It is also ideal for use in microscopy, life sciences, biomechanics, fluid dynamics, material sciences, and digital image correlation (DIC).
The exceptional light sensitivity, as with all of Photron’s high speed imagers, is measured to ISO 12232 Ssat standard: ISO 10,000 monochrome / ISO 5,000 color.
The lens interface is compatible with 1-inch C Mount, Nikon G-type, and Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lenses. Each camera head offers 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB memory options for excellent high performance Gigabit Ethernet interface to PC.
