Point Grey, a world-leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, high-performance digital cameras, today announced the introduction of the Grasshopper®3 GigE Vision™ PoE camera family, an extension to the existing Grasshopper3 USB3 Vision™ product line.
The first two models in the new Grasshopper3 GigE Vision PoE camera lineup feature Sony CMOS and CCD global shutter devices. The Grasshopper3 GS3-PGE-23S6 models use color and monochrome versions of the 1/1.2" Sony IMX174 Exmor® global shutter CMOS sensor and offer image resolution of 1920x1200 pixels and frame rates up to 46 FPS. The IMX174 is the first global shutter sensor from Sony and delivers ground breaking dynamic range performance of 73 dB while maximizing sensitivity and low light response with a peak quantum efficiency of 76%. The sensor's region of interest functionality can also be used to enable high-definition HD 1080p format. The Grasshopper3 GS3-PGE-60S6 models use color and monochrome versions of the 1" Sony ICX694 global shutter CCD sensor, and offer image resolution of 2736x2192 pixels and frame rates up to 13 FPS. The high resolution ICX694 device uses Sony's ExVIEW HAD CCD II technology, which is targeted for improved near infrared response.
"The large format, high-performance CCD and CMOS Grasshopper3 USB3 Vision camera family has been very successful in a wide range of applications such as 3D measurement, scientific imaging and factory automation," explains Michael Gibbons, Director of Sales and Marketing. "With the new Grasshopper3 GigE Vision PoE models, we now offer more choice to support applications that require long cable length, such as intelligent traffic systems (ITS), at a highly competitive price point."
The Grasshopper3 GS3-PGE-23S6 is list priced at $1295/€945 and the Grasshopper3 GS3-PGE-60S6 is list priced at $2995/€2295. Both models are available to order now from Point Grey, its network of distributors, and the online store (for North American, EU and Australian customers). Further Grasshopper3 models, including a 9.1 MP CCD version, are planned to be released throughout 2014.
