FRAMOS is happy to announce the addition of Intel® RealSense’s™ D455, its fourth depth camera in the D400 series, to their 3D devices portfolio. This product draws on over 10 years of stereo camera development to provide a unique set of features required by challenging 3D camera implementors. FRAMOS’s sales, operations, and support teams are ready to help customers looking to integrate this camera into their next robotic, AGV or other vision project.
The D455 has a longer baseline, at 95mm, which improves the depth accuracy while reducing depth errors to less than 2% at 4m. Stereo depth images are further enhanced by a global shutter RGB sensor is used to improve correspondence between depth and color images. The color imager utilizes a matching 86⁰ x 57⁰ field of view (FOV), the same seen by the depth sensors. Included in the camera is a Bosch BMI055 IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to improve environmental awareness for robotics and drones. The Active IR Stereo depth data output resolution is 1280 x 720 running up to 90 fps while the color sensor, with its similar resolution, runs at 30fps. Distances can be measured up to 20m but works best in the range of 0.4-6m. Power and communication is done through one USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 cable for easy setup. The camera is equipped with a ¼”-20 thread, compatible with standard camera tripods, and two M4 thread mounting points for more secured installations.
As with all Intel® RealSense cameras, the D455 runs with the cross-platform Intel® RealSense™ SDK 2.0 and the included viewer application which all support Windows, Linux, Android, and macOS. This latest version supports on-chip self-calibration to update the default settings which takes less than 15 seconds without the need for additional specialized targets.
Some ideal applications for this camera include:
- Collision Avoidance: Longer range and high FOV offered by the camera enable earlier detection of potential hazards
- 3D Scanning: Tightly integrated RGB and depth streams provide better quality scanning
- Digital Signage: Longer range of depth data enable better interactions with larger touch free displays
- Robotics & AGV: Increased depth accuracy improves the accuracy of pick and place applications or navigation
“The Intel RealSense D455 expands the capabilities of our stereo camera line to address longer range use cases and provides better performance. We are happy to work with FRAMOS and their customers to develop solutions for their industrial and robotics applications.” Joel Hagberg, Head of Product Management and Marketing, Intel RealSense Group.
