Microscan has added an ESD Safe model to the Mini Hawk product line. The ultra compact size of the Mini Hawk ESD Safe, combined with high-resolution optics and Microscan’s X-Mode decoding algorithms allow close range reading of even the most difficult direct part marks (DPM) on static-sensitive parts and components in electronics applications.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) and the damage it can inflict on sensitive components is a significant source of yield, rework expenses, and warranty returns. Manufacturers in industries such as hard disk drive, printed circuit board assembly, and semiconductor require barcode traceability solutions, yet work with electronic components which can be damaged by even small amounts of static electricity. Manufacturers require high quality, permanent 1D and 2D barcodes and are increasingly turning to laser etching and other DPM techniques as a replacement for printed adhesive labels.
Microscan’s new miniature fixed-mount barcode imager can be integrated safely and easily into any ESD-sensitive assembly process to read 1D and 2D barcodes directly marked on each part. The imager features Microscan’s X-Mode decode algorithms for reading damaged, distorted, or difficult low contrast 1D and 2D symbols, including direct part marks such as dot peen and laser/chemical etch. X-Mode technology provides easy setup and deployment in nearly any automation application. The RoHS/WEEE compliant Mini Hawk ESD Safe additionally includes autofocus, visible performance indicators, and both high speed and high resolution configurations.
