Young technology talent must be encouraged. This is the motto under which MVTec Software GmbH (www.mvtec.com) participated in the Smart Green Island Makeathon 2019. In its role as Silver Sponsor, the Munich-based provider of standard machine vision software supported the event, which took place from February 20 to 23 in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. The competition organized by ITQ GmbH gave 270 contestants from 70 universities in 21 countries the opportunity to prove their technical talents. Their task was to work in teams to develop prototypes for smart, green, and innovative products within a short period of time. In addition to financial sponsorship, MVTec made its HALCON standard machine vision software available to the students. The company's employees also mentored the young talents and offered them professional support in developing their projects with MVTec’s machine vision software.
Forming development teams and generating ideas
ITQ advises customers on the link between software and mechanics and would like to spark interest among young people for technological subjects by organizing events like the Smart Green Island Makeathon in Gran Canaria. During the four-day competition, the participants first learned how to form effective development teams and generate promising ideas. In several pitch sessions, the future technology experts presented their proposals, implementation plans, and project results to the approximately 400 contestants and guests.
