Photron has introduced its Range Version (RV) hardware, which can extend the normal operating temperature range of its Fastcam SA5 and SA2 cameras.
The sealed-case design makes the camera models impervious to dirt, dust, and sand. Photron's RV option includes two serviceable external fans that direct cooling air over the sealed camera body; this keeps the operating temperature stable and makes the device suitable for high-speed imaging in harsh environments. With an optional DC battery pack and a remote keypad with a built-in LCD viewfinder, the Range Version high-speed camera systems are configured for outdoor or field operation.
The Fastcam SA5 camera provides up to 7,500fps at Megapixel resolution (1,024 x 1,000); it is capable of delivering more than one-million frames per second at reduced resolution. The standalone, one-piece imaging system has a 12-bit monochrome, 36-bit RGB colour sensor, which features 20µm square pixels, for high dynamic range and colour fidelity.
The SA2 model is a 12-bit, 4 Megapixel, CMOS camera that delivers up to 1,000fps at full pixel resolution (2,000 x 2,000), 1,080 HDTV resolution up to 2,000fps, with additional speeds and resolutions available. This system is available with either a PL lens or a B4 lens mount, and provides high colour fidelity, exceptional light sensitivity and crisp image quality, making it popular for slow-motion imaging in sports and entertainment broadcasting. Easy to operate and/or integrate into new or existing systems, the Range Version configuration is also suitable for aerospace, automotive testing, air bag development and testing, ballistics testing, and combustion testing.
