IDS Imaging Development Systems has released a comprehensive software update for all uEye camera series. Besides supporting the standard 32-bit Windows versions, the new release 3.50 of the uEye software package includes drivers for the latest 64-bit versions of the Windows 7, Windows Vista and Linux operating systems. This allows full use of the powerful camera features on high-performance computer platforms.
The 32-bit versions of Windows Vista and XP as well as Windows 2000 are still fully supported. The Linux drivers for the uEye camera range have been completely revised, which also brings the software in line with the new General Public License (GPL) guidelines for the device drivers of open source operating systems.
The API for the cameras is the same regardless of which platform is used. For example, users can develop applications under Linux and run them on Windows systems (or vice versa) without much change. All USB and GigE camera models have compatible drivers, so users can mix and match the two technologies as required without problems.
uEye cameras in the field can take advantage of driver 3.50 as soon as the software update is installed in the host PC. This is made possible by on-the-fly firmware upload with which all uEye cameras are supplied.
