Camera manufacturer IDS has introduced two new high-resolution camera series with USB and GigE connections. The UI-2280 and UI-6280 series feature the Sony sensor ICX-655 with a 5 Megapixel resolution. The 2/3-inch sensor has a global shutter mode and ensures distortion-free capture even for very fast moving objects. The USB version returns up to 6.5fps, while the GigE version offers a frame rate of up to 10fps.
The cameras are available in many housing options and either as monochrome or colour versions. There are also several options available for the filter glass in front of the sensor. The high resolution of 5 Megapixels, the global shutter technology and the fast frame rate make the UI-2280 and UI-6280 model lines suitable for demanding image processing applications.
In trigger mode, all cameras achieve the same speed as in free-run mode. Even higher frame rates are possible when an AOI (Area of Interest) is set or binning (horizontal and vertical) is used. The versions with the GigE interface also transfer the full colour depth of 12 bits.
The 3.45µm pixels of the CCD sensor ensure high light sensitivity, and the relatively large pixel pitch makes selecting the right lenses easier. Many commercially available Megapixel lenses can be used on the UI-2280-C, so special lenses for extremely high resolution are unnecessary. The 2/3-inch size makes the cameras suitable for microscopic applications.
