IDS Imaging Development Systems has introduced its UI-3580CP-C USB 3.0 industrial cameras offering the new Aptina 5 Megapixel CMOS sensor. The colour imager offers a resolution of 2,560 x 1,920 pixels at 15fps. The sensor has a highly reduced image noise and hence offers an increased image quality. For applications that don't require colour images, the UI-3480CP-M offers the same detail and frame rate in a monochrome sensor.
The cameras' USB 3.0 interface delivers a significant advantage compared to common interfaces: a tenfold increased data rate up to 400MB/s compared to USB 2.0's 40MB/s or 100MB/s for GigE. High bandwidth means multi-camera systems or data intensive applications can be set up. Plus, because USB 3.0 is also downward compatible, the continued use of existing USB 2.0 systems is not an issue. These features plus the extensive availability of the universal USB interface guarantees long-term investment security.
Digital I/Os include trigger, flash and pulse width modulation, while two GPIOs are optically isolated and connected via a Hirose connector. Thanks to its compact, lightweight magnesium housing the camera is particularly well-suited for applications where space is limited.
To simplify deployment of the cameras, IDS offers a software package for Microsoft Windows and Linux that includes 32/64-bit drivers, demo programs, and source code in C++, C# and VB.
