IDS has released an updated driver version that significantly expands the range of functions offered by its new cameras with global shutter CMOS sensors by e2v. The driver will enable a fast line mode for the USB and GigE models UI-1240/UI-5240. In this operating mode the sensor records a line 12,000 times per second, making these affordable CMOS cameras suitable for inspection tasks involving high frequencies and fast-moving objects, for example in bottling or printing.
The driver update will also provide an additional readout mode that allows up to four areas of interest (AOIs) per frame to be set and simultaneously transmitted. Moreover, it adds a digital scaler to the cameras with e2v sensors, which generates reduced images almost steplessly while maintaining a full field of view and enables a frame rate of 100fps. Thanks to what is known as overlap trigger mode, the same frame rates are achieved for externally triggered images as in live mode.
The new CMOS cameras from IDS are based on the 1.3 Megapixel sensor with global shutter developed by e2v, which combines the advantages of CCD technology, such as light sensitivity and colour fidelity, with a high frame rate of up to 60fps. Available in monochrome and colour versions, the sensor's global shutter makes it suitable for use with very fast-moving objects. In addition, it has the typical advantages of a CMOS sensor; for example, the monochrome version can also be used for image capture under near-infrared light (NIR).
This extended range of functionalities also opens up areas of application that were previously often reserved for CCD cameras, such as standard inspection tasks involving high frequencies and fast-moving objects, for example in bottling or printing.
