Aberrational balancing of MTF in lens design

This white paper from Edmund Optics examines a hybrid approach to lens design for when a custom lens optimised for a specific magnification, working distance and sensor is not feasible. Lenses can be designed such that the spacing between elements or groups of elements can be adjusted; fine-tuning an existing design in this way can produce excellent results in less time and at a lower cost than a full custom design.
