Samsung Thales reflects with Optical Surfaces

Samsung Thales' R&D Center in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea has selected a 600mm diameter off-axis parabolic mirror from Optical Surfaces to be used as part of an optics testing system.

The high precision (surface accuracy lambda/20) off-axis parabolic mirror will be used by Samsung's optical system design team as a universal collimator system for testing large visible and IR optics being developed for use in the next generation of the company's thermal imaging and electro optical systems.

The mirror was purchased through Optical Surfaces' local distributor, Jeewoo Photonics.

MoonWhe Hur, product specialist at Jaewoo Photonics, commented: ‘Samsung sought a supplier with a proven track record in supplying affordable, large off-axis parabolic mirrors in an easy-to-use precision mount. With over 50 years experience and expertise in designing such systems, Optical Surfaces was the preferred supplier chosen by the optical system design team at Samsung.’

Samsung Thales has a product portfolio from small optical systems to large aperture cameras, such as thermal imaging cameras, airborne cameras for surveillance and reconnaissance, and large aperture satellite cameras. Samsung Thales has a facility to assemble and align large aperture optical systems, and collaborates with the professional subcontractors manufacturing large aperture mirrors and reference flat mirrors from 500mm up to 2m in diameter.
